Parent Education

UCAC offers extensive free education for parents who are considering adopting a child with special needs.

Parent Forums focusing on the adoption of children with special needs, including HIV/AIDS, are held quarterly by UCAC and Project Hopeful. The free 2-hour seminar includes a presentation on the medical, developmental, and psychological aspects of special needs adoption; and an open forum with experienced adoptive parents. Learn more

Online Education for Adopting Parents. Our Care Team has created several online videos outlining some of the more common types of special needs adoption. Parents will gain a deeper understanding of a medical condition as well as answers to their tough questions about what it means to raise a child living with this condition. For credit-based courses required by adoption agencies, we recommend Adoption Learning Partners. ALP provides Web-based courses, moderated chat rooms, book reviews and educational resources for adoptive parents, adopted individuals, birth parents and professionals.
